WVU political science professor says Russia’s aggression in Ukraine is ‘dangerous for everyone’

Michelle D. Castillo February 22, 2022 1 min read

Erik Herron, Eberly Family Professor of Political Science at West Virginia University, is available to talk about the latest developments in Ukraine.

Herron’s research focuses on political institutions, particularly electoral systems. He has traveled extensively conducting research in Eastern Europe and Eurasia, including a tenure as a Fulbright Scholar in Ukraine.

ESTIMATE:

“Russia began its invasion of Ukraine in 2014 with its abusive annexation of Crimea and direct support for separatism in the Donbass region. The escalation of the Russian invasion over the past few days and weeks is not only a direct threat to Ukraine’s sovereignty, but also to peace and stability in Europe and the world.

“While Ukraine may seem remote to West Virginians and other Americans, Russia’s aggression is dangerous for all of us. President Vladimir Putin and his government view the West – and the United States – as adversaries. They work to undermine American interests around the world, threatening our allies and our national security, our economic well-being, and the safety of our friends and family who serve in the military.
